ROSIE’S…. A GREAT LITTLE CAFE
“I first ate & drank at Rosie’s about 6 week’s after I moved to Brixton in South London at the beginning of April 2016. It took me a while to find it, as it was not on one of the “Main” passage ways in Brixton’s In-door Market Row. What I liked most about Rosie’s form the very first time I had a café latte there, was the décor. Cream painted walls, covered with “pigeon hole” storage units, large & small in which dry stock and items for sale(Try their Chilli Jam. It is delicious) are kept and where there are no storage units, artwork of various types. The ceiling is like the walls, bare with lightbulbs hanging down between the pipe work. The tables are the perfect size for a small café like Rosie’s. Any bigger & they would ruin the lay out of the interior. Even though there is no wheel chair access to the inside, there are 2 tables outside the café. Rosie’s serves both hot & cold food and drinks.”
“We went there with my sister and her husband for Sunday brunch.
We luckily arrived just in time, as the small place (perhaps 30 seats) very quickly filled-up after us.
It’s clearly been here long enough to be well-established, with a quirky interior of retro/vintage furniture, jars of homemade goodies on the shelves, and plenty of staff confidently busy.
They had a range of interesting bread (but sadly no wholemeal, which is my penchant), unusual breakfast veg and wide range of dishes. I went off-menu and had scrambled eggs with long-stem broccoli salad and sweet chilli jam, which was delicious.
My sister had a Reuben sandwich without cheese (which doesn’t make any sort of sense to me) and loved it. My partner had French toast with ricotta and Parma Ham which she said was “very very good”.
We are all quite fussy about our coffee and we all really liked it.
And it was good value too: a main course brunch and two coffees each for £10/head.”
“I work in the Brixton village market and I have to say that this place is THE BEST place for breakfast! Beautifully prepared food and lovely staff! Such a relief to come to a place with no attitude, good coffee and a variety of options to suit every foodie! Try the ricotta and prosciutto on French toast or the truffled sandwich!”
